Thousands of students, parents, activists and opposition politicians have gathered in New Delhi after the youth-led Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) called a march to India’s Parliament, demanding reforms to the country’s education system.

Tensions rose after educator and activist Sonam Wangchuk was removed by police from his hunger strike on 18 July and taken to hospital, where he continues his fast. Wangchuk has said he is prepared to end his hunger strike if political leaders commit to taking up the protesters’ demands on education accountability in Parliament.
