India became part of one of the biggest efforts to map the universe in 3D when scientists from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) joined the international Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) collaboration.

DESI measures the light from millions of galaxies and quasars to find their distance and movement, creating a 3D map of the universe. TIFR scientists played an important role in analysing this data to study the large-scale structure of the universe, dark energy, and how the universe has expanded over billions of years.
