An Indian-origin restaurant manager, Mohamed Jesil, heroically caught a 3-year-old girl as she fell from a second-floor window ledge in Ilford.
Originally from Kerala, Jesil credited his cricket-playing days in India for helping him stay focused and react quickly.
The child had been clinging to a window ledge above a shop for nearly nine minutes while bystanders watched in horror. A police officer attempted a rescue but faced difficulties due to the bright sun.
Hearing the commotion, Jesil rushed from his nearby flat, positioned himself beneath the child, and safely caught her when she fell.
A father of five-month-old twin daughters, Jesil said he acted on pure parental instinct:
“I played cricket in India, so that may have helped with my catching. I just knew I had to concentrate.”
The child was unharmed, received medical checks, and soon returned to school. Her family praised Jesil and the responding officer as true heroes.
❤️ A remarkable example of courage, quick thinking, and humanity. 🇮🇳👏
