At least 477 people have been confirmed dead since the first flood, with more than 1,500 people missing across both countries, including visitors from India, Malaysia, Australia, the UK and the US.
Fresh flooding on both sides of the border risks complicating already challenging rescue efforts in a remote mountain region, with China’s Ministry of Water Resources warning that a barrier lake had been created as a result of falling ice-rock debris.
