Since the last 2 days, a video is being shared on social media claiming that a Muslim man is brutally assaulting Hindu women using iron rods and hammer in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur. In the video a man named Abdul had assaulted a Hindu family in the neighbourhood for asking him not to throw garbage in front of their home. Shockingly, the video also shows the bystanders being also thrashed. One person recording the incident was also seen brutally thrashed by Abdul. Zee Hindustan journalist Tushar Srivastava also tweeted the video with a Hindi caption which translates to, “Under the Katra police station area of Mirzapur, Abdul made a deadly attack on the women of a Hindu family for being asked to stop from throwing garbage. Now why Abdul should not be called a terrorist, this is called as terror.” The video was being circulated with to instigate fights between the hindu and the muslim communities. Mirzapur police took notice of the viral video and issued a response on Twitter. In its tweet, Mirzapur police stated that the incident was old and it happened in January 2022. Case had already been filed and 3 accused had been arrested. However it was also clarified by the Mirzapur Police that both the the victims and assailants belonged to the Muslim community.
Such incidents of instigating communities on the basis of religion, language, food, and dress are on the rise. In another video going viral, a reporter from Sudarshan News TV is seen having a verbal argument with a woman employee at a Haldiram’s store. The reporter is heard asking the staff why the packet of Haldiram’s ‘Falhari Mixture’ made for people fasting in Navratri had information written in Urdu. The reporter is also heard asking what they were trying to hide and whether the snacks contained “animal oil, beef oil”. The staff then responds: “If you want to have this you can have it, if you don’t want to have it, you can just keep this here and leave.” Many lauded the staff for standing up against the reporter. The video went viral, people started to call for a boycott of Haldiram’s products.
It was then found that the text written on the pack is not Urdu but Arabic. A picture of the package on the company’s website shows text in English on the front, along with a green dot, symbolising it’s a vegetarian product. Many explained that Arabic texts are needed for Indian products exported in the Middle East (Gulf countries – UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar etc). Some also said that reporter could have avoided the argument by simply translating the text online. SImply they want to instigate problems between Hindus and muslims by making such videos. Other Indian products that are sold in Dubai and other Arabic speaking countries also have labels printed in Arabic. The requirement is mandated by the government in the UAE and is standard for several other countries that export to the UAE. Such issues to divide the unity of our country shouldn’t be accepted.
