This viral video of a Sikh college student getting arrested for wearing a kirpan at a US university sparked outrage around the world. While a Twitter user said he had worn his kirpan for five years at the same university without any issue, others said the universities there should teach students about the religious practices of minorities. The video has garnered over three million views on Twitter. The kirpan is a ceremonial dagger carried by Sikhs who undergo the ceremony of “Amrit Chakhna” (baptism in Sikhs). Following this, they must possess 5 articles of faith: karha (a steel bracelet), kachha (underpants), kanga (a wooden comb), kesh (hair) — they can’t cut their hair — and the kripan (a dagger). This is said to embody the Sikh principles of faith, wisdom and warrior.

President Joe Biden said after his meeting Monday with Chinese President Xi Jinping that he is confident China is not preparing to attack Taiwan.
“I’m committed to keeping the lines of communications open between you and me personally, but also our governments across the board,” Biden told Xi on Monday, emphasizing both countries share a responsibility to “manage our differences, prevent competition from becoming anything ever to near conflict, and to find ways to work together on urgent global issues that require our mutual cooperation.”
Xi responded: “The world has come to a crossroads. Where to go from here – this is a question that is not only on our mind but also on the mind of all countries. The world expects that China and the United States will properly handle the relationship.”
