British food creator Julius Fiedler travelled across India to explore traditional plant-based cuisine—and came away calling it one of the biggest vegan food paradises he’s ever seen. In this video, Firstpost explains his journey from elaborate South Indian sadya feasts served on banana leaves to Mumbai’s iconic street foods like misal pav, pani puri and vada pav. Fiedler shows how Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism, along with India’s tropical climate, have shaped a cuisine where countless familiar dishes are naturally meat- and dairy-free. While ghee and dairy are still widely used, everyday staples like dal, dosa, idli and sambar often remain entirely plant-based.
