Saudi Arabia Executes Two Bangladeshis Over Mecca Mosque Acts As Dhaka Says It Was Not Informed

Saudi Arabia has executed two Bangladeshi nationals convicted of committing what authorities called immoral acts inside a mosque in the holy city of Mecca. The Interior Ministry said the executions were carried out on October 14, after the pair were arrested, charged and sentenced to death under ta’zir, a discretionary punishment under Islamic law. The sentences were upheld and a royal order authorised their implementation. However, Saudi authorities have disclosed few details about the alleged acts or the circumstances of the arrests. Bangladesh’s consulate in Jeddah says it was not notified beforehand and has sought formal acknowledgement through a note verbale. The ministry warned that similar offences will face legal consequences. The case comes amid scrutiny of Saudi capital punishment.
