Doctors say educationist and activist Sonam Wangchuk has lost more than 9kg as his indefinite hunger strike enters its 19th day.

The 59-year-old has been surviving on salt water and aides say he’s in immense pain and unable to even stand without support.

On Thursday, the court ordered the government to monitor his health regularly and provide necessary treatment if needed.

Wangchuk has been protesting in support of an online satirical movement called the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) who are demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan following a series of paper leaks.

But Pradhan has refused to step down and called protestors “the B-team of disruptive elements”.
