“Sarfaroshi ki tamanna —
ab hamare dil mein hai.
Dekhna hai zor kitna —
baazu-e-qaatil mein hai.”
He wrote these words.
And lived them. 🇮🇳
Ram Prasad Bismil. Shahjahanpur. UP. 1897.
“Bismil” — Urdu for “wounded.”
He chose this name —
because India’s slavery wounded him every day.
But from those wounds —
he wrote poetry.
And from that poetry —
a revolution was born.
Arya Samaj taught him one truth —
“Freedom is never given.
It must be taken.”
1924 — founded Hindustan Republican Association.
With Ashfaqullah Khan.
With Chandrashekhar Azad.
One goal — “United States of India.”
But revolution needed money.
And they decided —
that money would come from the British.
August 9, 1925. Kakori. Near Lucknow.
8 Down Train. Saharanpur to Lucknow.
10 revolutionaries. One plan.
Stopped the train.
Looted the British government treasury.
News spread across all of Hindustan.
The British government trembled.
Everyone was caught —
except Chandrashekhar Azad.
In jail — he wrote his autobiography.
And wrote that song —
“Mera rang de basanti chola.”
December 19, 1927. Gorakhpur Jail.
Hanged. Just 30 years old.
His last words on the gallows —
“Sarfaroshi ki tamanna
ab hamare dil mein hai.”
Bhagat Singh himself said —
“Bismil is one of the greatest
poet-revolutionaries of Hindi and Urdu.”
30 years. A poet. A revolutionary.
Who fought with both pen and weapon.
Ram Prasad Bismil — forever. 🙏
