In China, Mao Zedong killed almost half of the population. However, he did not kill these people directly; rather, his policies and terrible campaigns killed people by torturing them. About 15 to 45 million people died due to hunger in the Great Leap Forward, and about 5 to 2 million people died due to the Cultural Revolution. However, apart from starvation, about 2.5 million people were killed by Mao, by beating and torture, and 2 to 3 million people committed suicide due to his fear.
