Activist Sonam Wangchuk’s indefinite hunger strike in support of the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP’s) protest has entered its 17th day at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the CJP, told the BBC’s Geeta Pandey that Wangchuk has lost more than 8kg since beginning his fast and doctors have raised concerns about his deteriorating health. Despite repeated requests to end the hunger strike, Dipke says Wangchuk is determined to continue.

The CJP has been protesting for more than three weeks against alleged irregularities in competitive examinations and demanding the resignation of federal Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The group has also announced a march to Parliament on 20 July.
