An Indian-flagged oil tanker allegedly came under fire from the Iranian military in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz less than 24 hours after assurances of safe passage, raising fresh concerns over maritime security. According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations, two gunboats from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps allegedly opened fire on an India-flagged tanker, Sanmar Herald, northeast of Oman. The vessel sustained minor damage, though the crew remained safe. Separate reports also indicated a nearby cruise ship experienced a close-range splash, while another Indian vessel was stopped and turned back over clearance issues. A tense audio message attributed to the tanker’s captain captured the confusion during the encounter.
