Australia’s most wanted fugitive, Dezi Freeman, was shot dead by police after a three-hour standoff near the Victoria-New South Wales border, ending a seven-month manhunt. Freeman was found armed and hiding in an elaborate camp structure approximately 100 kilometres from where he killed police officers in August last year. Victoria’s Chief Commissioner Mike Bush confirmed Freeman refused an opportunity to surrender peacefully before the fatal shooting, and police are investigating whether others assisted him during his months in hiding.
