British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has ordered the UK military to board and detain Russian ships allegedly operating as part of Moscow’s shadow fleet, a covert network of tankers used to bypass Western sanctions and fund Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine. Speaking at the Joint Expeditionary Force Summit in Helsinki, Starmer vowed to go after the shadow fleet even harder, warning that Russian President Vladimir Putin was likely capitalising on soaring oil prices driven by the US-Israel war against Iran. Starmer called for greater European coordination in seizing shadow fleet vessels.
